Getting started

Track a deal through the pipeline

Move an opportunity through your sales stages, from Prospecting to Closed Won or Lost.

Updated August 12, 2026

An opportunity is a deal in progress. It moves through your pipeline as a card on the Opportunities board. Create it, then drag its card into the next column as the deal advances, right through to Closed Won or Closed Lost.

  1. Click Opportunities in the sidebar.
  2. Click New opportunity.
  3. Type the deal's name into Name. This is the only required field.
  4. Select a Company and Contact if this deal is tied to one.
  5. Fill in Amount, Close Date, or Stage if you know them. You can set these later.
  6. Click Create.

See your pipeline

Click Board next to List at the top of the Opportunities page. Every stage (Prospecting, Qualification, Needs Analysis, Value Proposition, Id. Decision Makers, Perception Analysis, Proposal/Price Quote, Negotiation/Review, Closed Won, and Closed Lost) appears as a column, with each deal shown as a card underneath it.

Move a deal forward

Drag a deal's card from its current column into the column for its next stage. The change saves as soon as you drop it, with no need to open the record.

You can also change a deal's stage from its own record: open it, click Edit, choose a new Stage, and click Save changes.

If the stage names don't match your sales process, then edit them

Stage is a field like any other. Click your workspace name at the top of the sidebar, click Custom Fields, select the Opportunities tab, and open Stage from its Actions menu. You can rename stages, recolor them, reorder them, or add new ones. See Use custom fields for how field settings work.
