Find anything with search and filters
=======================================

Find instructions for searching Relaticle records and filtering lists of companies, people, opportunities, tasks and notes.

 Updated October 4, 2026

Press **⌘K** (or click the search box in the sidebar) to search across every record at once, or use the search and filter controls on any list to narrow down what's already in front of you.

1. Click the search box at the top of the sidebar, or press **⌘K**.
2. Type any part of a name. Results appear grouped by record type: **Companies**, **Opportunities**, and more.
3. Click a result to open it.

Every list (Companies, People, Opportunities, Tasks, Notes) has its own **Search** box above the table. Typing there filters just that list, and shows what you searched for as a removable chip under **Active filters**.

-------------------------------------------

1. Click the **Filter** icon above the table.
2. Set any of the filters shown, such as **Creation Source** and **Deleted records**. Custom fields that hold choices, tags, or linked records appear here too.
3. Click **Reset** to clear them all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The filter panel only offers custom fields that hold a choice, tags, or a linked record. These are the **Select**, **Radio**, **Toggle Buttons**, **Multi Select**, **Checkbox List**, **Tags Input**, and **Record** types. Fields of other types, such as Text, Number, or Date, have no filter in the panel.

A field of one of those types also needs **Visible in List** turned on. Follow these steps to check it.

1. Click your workspace name at the top of the sidebar, click **Workspace Settings**, then open the **Custom Fields** tab.
2. Select the entity tab, then open the field from its **Actions** menu.
3. Under **Settings**, turn on **Visible in List**.
4. Save the field.

The **Searchable** setting has no effect on the filter panel. See [Use custom fields](/help/getting-started/use-custom-fields) for every field setting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The filter panel is one way to narrow a list. The REST API, the MCP server and Rela, the built-in AI assistant, use a `filter` object instead. It filters by native fields and custom fields, combines conditions with AND, OR and NOT, and follows links between records. Read [the MCP guide](/developers/mcp) for the full grammar.
